Club America take No. 1 spot, Tigres drop to No. 2 in Power Rankings

The Clausura is finally underway and a common theme throughout the first days was that several of the goalscorers were notable Mexican youngsters. Players like America's Henry Martin, Toluca's Alexis Vega, Pumas' Jesus Gallardo and Chivas' Javier Eduardo "Lalo" Lopez all scored goals.
Hopefully, this specific event becomes a tendency and not just a brief memory. Here are the Week 1 Power Rankings.
1. CLUB AMERICA (+3)
Martin scored the only goal of the evening and America beat Queretaro 1-0 in its first match of the Clausura. Martin appears to be ready to emerge as the best option to accompany Oribe Peralta up front but that could change if the club manages to get a striker like Luuk de Jong.
2. TIGRES UANL  (-1)
To see Tigres lose to Puebla in Week 15 would have been a shocker but to see them lose to Puebla 2-1 in the opening week is not that surprising. The result should be seen as a product of Puebla's excellent preseason as well as Tigres' tendency to start off the seasons slow and catch fire at the start of the playoffs.
3. MONTERREY (-1)
Heading into Week 1, manager Antonio "Turco" Mohamed couldn't call upon new signing Jonathan Urretaviscaya, who sustained a muscular injury in the days prior to the match against Morelia. During the warm-up before kickoff, Aviles Hurtado also suffered a muscular injury. With these two out, Monterrey almost beat Morelia 1-0 but in the last minutes of the match Morelia got a penalty call in its favor to grab a 1-1 draw.
4. CRUZ AZUL (-1)
Estadio Azul wasn't completely full for Pedro Caixinha's Cruz Azul debut. Although newcomer Carlos Fierro insisted on making an impact for La Maquina, most of his attempts were futile. One of the new players who quietly made a good impression was Jose Maduena. The right-back showed bright sparks and his style is similar of a young Paul Aguilar, who currently fills the position at Club America.
5. MORELIA (+1)
The fact that Morelia has a solid base heading into this new season makes fans think that it has everything in the works to reach a third consecutive Liguilla. The key moving forward will be for Peru international Raul Ruidiaz to start putting up impressive scoring numbers.
6. LEON (+2)
Mauro Boselli and Andres Andrade scored goals to give Leon a 2-1 victory against Atlas. Los Esmeraldas hadn't started a season with a win since the 2016 Clausura.
7. CLUB TIJUANA (no change)
For Xolos, a scoreless draw against Cruz Azul in Mexico City could be seen as a good result. The team's standout was center-back Pablo Aguilar, who became club captain immediately after arrival from Club America.
8. SANTOS LAGUNA (+4)
Osvaldo Martinez started off the new season with three assists and Djaniny Tavares scored three goals. If both can keep this rhythm flowing, Santos will become an immediate protagonist in the Clausura.

America, Santos with strong start to Clausura; Apertura finalists struggle

The Liga MX 2018 Clausura got underway this past weekend, with a number of tight games and intrigue surrounding a new season in Mexico's first division.

Here are five talking points:

1. America, Santos off to impressive starts

Club America has a different feel to it this Clausura. The signing of French forward Jeremy Menez appears to have given the institution a lift. That was seen as Las Aguilas picked up a 1-0 victory against Queretaro in Estadio Corregidora on Sunday in an entertaining game.

Colorado Rapids reach deals to add Edgar Castillo, Jack Price

The Colorado Rapids have acquired U.S. international defender Edgar Castillo on loan and completed a move for midfielder Jack Price.

The MLS club had yet to confirm the players' signings but still introduced them at a fan event on Monday.

Castillo, 31, joins Colorado on a year-long loan from Monterrey after spending his entire club career in Liga MX.

Castillo was born in New Mexico but came up through the Mexican national team youth system and even played in three friendlies for El Tri before switching to the U.S. in 2009.

He most recently played for the U.S. in a pair of World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala in March 2016.

Price, 25, arrives from English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he had spent his entire career outside of a few short-term loans, after joining the club's academy at seven years old.

He signed his first pro contract with Wolves in 2011 and has made 115 appearances for the club, with two goals.

At Wolves he was a teammate of Kevin Doyle, who retired last year after two seasons with Colorado.

"I've been at Wolves for my entire footballing life so it's played a huge part in my career," he told the club's website. "I've played with some fantastic players and worked with some brilliant staff.

"Of course, a part of me is sad to leave the club after so many years, but the time is right for a new challenge and I'm really looking forward to my next step.

"I would like to thank everybody who has helped me during my time at Wolves and the fans for their support throughout my time here. It's a wonderful club and I wish it every success going forward."

Predictions of the Champions League

Tips to bet on the Champions League
The Champions League is the most important annual competition in European football. Inaugurated in the 1955-1956 season, the Champions League has undergone several remodeling in its format until it reaches the current one. In fact, the name of the competition is due to the fact that originally only the champions clubs of each national competition could play it.
The team that has won the Champions League most times in one of its formats is Real Madrid, with 10 championships, followed by AC Milan with 7. After they are Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, and Liverpool with 5 titles each... The teams that have played the Champions League final most times are also Real Madrid with 13 and AC Milan with 11, followed by Bayern Munich with 10 this time alone.
Champions League calendar
The Champions League itself begins on September 15 and ends with the final on May 28.
Before that, between June 30 and August 26 the previous phase will have been disputed, in which the teams that could not qualify directly will have their opportunity to achieve it.
The group will run from September 15 to December 9. Finally, after the Christmas break, the Champions League qualifiers will start, where we will enjoy some of the highest football matches of the season.
Strategy to make bets in football matches of the Champions League
The Champions League unlike other competitions by eliminatory is a competition that all clubs mark as a priority. Rarely will we see the coaches rotating their most important players in the Champions League matches?
To bet on the Champions League you have to be careful when you inform us about the fitness of the teams. Many clubs that in the Champions League are small and do not have many chances of victory, in their countries they can overwhelm their rivals. For that reason, it is convenient that when you analyze the team's match streak, although you can see how they are doing in their domestic competition, be careful with that. A team from a strong league in worse shape may be more favorable in the Champions League than a team that is showing itself intractable in its league.
Also in the group stage, you always have to check which teams are playing qualifying for the qualifiers, which teams are discarded, and which teams will end up playing the Europa League.
In the playoffs, as always, you must take into account which team will play the round at home since this can be a great advantage at any given time.
